CTBUH is pleased to be a supporting partner of the Chicago Architecture Foundation’s first ever design competition, soliciting ideas and visions for an imagined learning campus in downtown Chicago called the Chicago Architecture, Design + Education Center (CADE).

The CADE campus would encompass a new headquarters, visitor center, and exhibition spaces for the Chicago Architecture Foundation, a new headquarters for the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat, a design and allied arts high school, and flexible learning spaces for out-of-school-time youth programs. CADE will be a new kind of learning campus that will not only equip young people with 21st century design skills, but serve as a model for the way the design of education centers can be more efficient and interactive, bringing multiple communities into one modern learning space.

We invite our members to propose speculative designs to this international ideas competition, and to share this opportunity with your students and colleagues.
  • First Prize: $10,000
  • Second Prize: $5,000
  • Third Prize: $2,500

The prestigious Competition Jury includes:

Stanley Tigerman, Principal, Tigerman McCurry Architects
David Adjaye, Founder and Principal Architect, Adjaye Associates
Ned Cramer, Editor-in-chief, Architect
Monica Ponce de Leon, Dean, University of Michigan
Billie Tsien, Co-Founder, Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects

A student committee comprising Chicago Public School High School students will review the shortlist of submissions selected by the jury and identify a winner for the Student Committee Prize. This winner will receive a $1,000 cash prize.

A selection of finalist submissions will be exhibited at CAF in October, to coincide with North America’s first architectural biennial to be hosted in Chicago.
