Mahatma Gandhi Labour institute महात्मा गांधी श्रम संस्थान -B V Doshi - Manish Jain - 11-02-2018

Mahatma Gandhi Labour institute (MGLI)
Ahmedabad

Architect: B V Doshi - Stein, Doshi and Bhalla

This institutional complex is derived from the doshi's earlier experiments in his Sangath project. The atavistic language of vaults is explored here with pugnacious modernity. This building differs from its precedent, however, in its decidedly more urbanistic theme. Although motifs and traces of the paradise garden are worked into the environmental collage, fragmentary allusions to a townscape - plaza, courtyard, viaduct, street and stair - are the formal gestures of the composition

The Institute have built up area of 11,500 sq. mtrs with following facilities :

  1. An air-conditioned Auditorium with a capacity of 200 seats.
  2. Two air-conditioned Seminar Rooms with a capacity of 50, and 25 seats.

  4. A well furnished hostel with 28 General rooms (double bed) and 4 VIP Rooms, with A.C., TV and Sofa.
  5. An Open Air Theatre.
