Footing

That portion of the foundation of a structure that spreads and transmits the load directly to the soil. It is more from a structural aspect that would transfer the axial load from the column to the soil. Footing can be idealized during analysis as supports

Foundation


It is a complex term used in Geotechnical Engineering to denote the soil and footing and their interaction that provides bearing capacity as well as settlement resistance to the super structure.
The entire masonry substructure below the first floor or frame of a building, including the footing upon which the building rests.
