In terms of their function, all walls are either load bearing or non load bearing walls. A load bearing wall is part of the structure of the building - it holds the building up. A non-load bearing wall is only a partition that divides the various rooms of a building. one can demolish a wall if it is a non-load bearing wall; one cannot move or demolish a load bearing wall.

Walls  : A general term for a vertical building component used to support loads and divide up living spaces Also a term used exclusively to describe exterior vertical surfaces
Partitions  : Interior walls

  1. Load-Bearing Wall LBW
  2. Non-Load-Bearing Wall NLBW
  3. Load-Bearing Partition LBP
  4. Non-Load-Bearing Partition NLBP

Facade system : Super structural (above ground)

curtain wall system 
wall & window system  
Cavity wall 
Retaining wall : Sub structure (below ground)
