Health & Social Conditions of Sanitation Workers in Nagpur

Based on a survey and medical tests to view a broad spectrum of influencing factors on the health conditions of door-to-door rubbish collectors in the city of Nagpur, India, it was found that despite several below standard work practices, the health conditions of the sampled solid waste collectors were satisfactory. The relatively short time frame of employment of the sample means that further time series analysis is required at a future date in order to determine the health effects of length of exposure to the employment. Analysis of the factors associated with the health conditions of the solid waste collectors does however help to identify key elements for policies that can improve their working conditions.
