Walls system

load bearing or non load bearing walls
In terms of their function, all walls are either load bearing or non load bearing walls. A load bearing wall is part of the structure of the building - it holds the building up. A non-load bearing wall is only a partition that divides the various rooms of a building. one can demolish a wall if it is a non-load bearing wall; one cannot move or demolish a load bearing wall.

Walls  : A general term for a vertical building component used to support loads and divide up living spaces Also a term used exclusively to describe exterior vertical surfaces

Basic Exterior Wall Types

CAVITY WALL

A cavity wall (also referred to as "screen" or "drained" wall systems) is considered by many to be the preferred method of construction in most climatic and rainfall zones in india.

BARRIER WALL

As the name implies, this term is commonly used to describe any exterior wall system of assembly that relies principally upon the weather-tight integrity of the outermost exterior wall surfaces and construction joints to resist bulk rainwater penetration and/or moisture ingress.

MASS WALL

Unlike a cavity wall system, where the wall is constructed with a wall cavity and through-wall flashing to collect and redirect bulk rainwater to the building exterior, mass walls rely principally upon a combination of wall thickness, storage capacity, and (in masonry construction) bond intimacy between masonry units and mortar to effectively resist bulk rainwater penetration.
