Rehabilitation of Bagore ki Haveli Mewar
Restoration Architect Dr. Rajiv Khanna
Built on the banks of Lake Pichola in 1671 by Arnarchand Barwa, chief minister at the court of the Maharana of Mewar, Bagore ki Haveli acquired prominence as the home of Nath Singh, the second son of Maharana Sangram Singh II (1710-1734 AD). who was given the title- Maharaja of Bagore. The eminent position Bagore held in the political hierarchy of Mewar as the thikana (feudal house) of the second son, is clearly reflected in the planning, rich architectural detailing and grandeur of this 134 room haveli, which historians have compared with the royal palaces and forts of Mewar: Studied holistically and in comparison to other havelis of the same period, it is the perfect embodiment of medieval Rajput style and the social and cultural milieu of its times.
