Background

Intended to be a cradle for the small and medium businesses in Kyongp-do, the project is the first of its kind in the whole nation, which was planned and put into action by the provincial government. Since the IMF bailout for the nation it was widely known that it was priority national task to develop vesture businesses among other things, and thus more investments and concerns have to be paid to the area in the future as well. Against this policy background, the Kyonggi Small Business Center was planned, for which the designer had something in mind to clarify in advance, which can be summarized as the following three points. The first was to have a comprehensive understanding of the small and medium business support facilities as a venture incubator that had not any comparisons at that time in the country The second was to establish a relationship between the planned roads that were not yet built on the land designated as natural grech area and the height of the planned land and the existing roads. And the last was to deeply consider how the Kyonggi Small Business Center would accommodate the pride of the provincial government and the wishes for the covenience the tenants of the center should feels as an image.

Distance and short-range views

lots of alternatives and evaluations, a preliminary plan was set up to whereby to make use of the land  slope by placing a public plaza in the front south and buildiing
in the north where slope is mild This is a layout that faces the front side toward the planned road that will be constructed in the future and the back of the building toward the existing mad connecting Wuwon and Suji. The front road constitutes the short-range view and the inter-city road a distance view.

Configuration of mass

As a solution for the mass which was followed by a construction of a mass in a concept of edition, not of division, whereby shapes changes in acconfance with the functions. As a building mass of the partition facilities a simple rectangular mass was crossed in the form of which was laid down along the slope of the land and the auxiliary facilities to be constructed through a bridge

Assignments related to the land and project

A distinct gap between the level of road and land slope, functional separation of the stiff slope-partition facilities and the auxiliary facilities and the suggestion of phase plan for the constructions, and accommodation of complicate functions of the partition facilities, expression of image of the facilities for high tech industries and the symbolism of the support facilities were major assignments related to the symbolism of the support facilities were major conveniences the tenants of the center should assignments related to the implementation of the project. The design solutions to all of the complicate questions could he found, most of all, in the concept of shifting from simplicity to In the process for solving the questions based on complexity

Soild v/s Void - flexibilty of space

An atrium opening the four floors around a 8mx8m sized module in the cubic frame structure axis and a circulating green space make the multiple functions of the building separate from each other on one hand and connect to each other on the other hand Also the frame structur of the module was finished with glass so at t provide for the transparence for the outside natural environment could reach the inside of the building, while leaving a room for future expansion works or any alteration of inner par in the future. And elliptical-shaped cylinder type mass that resembles traditional musical instrument Jim Drum is designed for internatio conferences, with egg-type inside space function laying across the service facilities that are finished with metal frame and glasses thus for both solid space and void space in the atrium to go along together.
