CDC WASTE MANAGEMENT MODEL

Taking care of the environment is becoming increasingly important in a world of growing population and scarce resources. As cities grow and industries expand, pollution threatens the quality and sustainability of the environment. Improper environmental care, with its multiple consequences on public health and economic resources, ultimately threatens human life. The motivation of this study is to assess the cost efficiency of the CDC Waste Management Model (WMM) in the specific case of the Nagpur community. In fulfilling its purpose, the study avails itself of the social cost-benefit analysis. This method consists of identifying and quantifying the effects of each alternative, and measuring them in present value or in an equivalent unit amount (annual, monthly), so as to be able to compare the options and to assess which one of them is the most convenient for the community. The report has been organized in two main parts. In the first one, the analysis is concentrated on the costs involved in waste management, both in NMC and in CDC models. While in the second one, the focus is on the incremental benefits that CDC’s project renders to society, so that finally an estimate of its socioeconomic impact can be obtained.
