How does sound move? Along the direction of propagation or perpendicular to it?

Sound waves are longitudinal waves, where the particles in the medium (air, water, or solid) vibrate parallel to the direction the wave travels.
Example: When you speak, the air molecules compress and rarefy in the direction of your voice, creating sound waves that reach your listener’s ear.
